In 2009 the village square of Lonneker was newly refurbished. In doing so, the very old water place next to the Roman Catholic Church and the cemetery, which had probably been there since long before World War II, almost disappeared.
According to tradition, it was "useful to men who urgently needed to pee after church service. Especially if the pastor had spoken for too long."
Ingrid van Bergen, artist and resident of Lonneker took the initiative to find a new purpose for the small building. She gathered a couple of enthusiasts who were willing to help and she got full support from the village council Lonneker.
The gallery is called Galerie Urinoir Bezet.
